A Medfield moving checklist that starts with less to move
A useful moving list starts before the first box. Give each room and each large piece a destination, then plan the packing and loading around what remains.
Give the furniture a destination
Walk through the home with four choices: move, donate, recycle or remove. Note the size and condition of large pieces. If a sofa will not suit the next home, it belongs on a separate decision list rather than automatically in the moving load.
Medfield’s SWAP area is a seasonal reuse option at the town transfer station. Check its current season and acceptance before making it part of a time-sensitive handover. Charity approval is a separate step; a planned pickup is not acceptance. Medfield SWAP Area
Build the quote around the actual work
Keep one inventory for furniture and estimated boxes, and another for services. Packing the kitchen, clearing a basement and unpacking bedrooms are different tasks. Name them instead of leaving everything under “moving help.”
Share photos of stairs, tight corners and the loading approach at both homes. Keep dates for access, closing and property handover together so the schedule reflects when each address is available.
- Record both addresses and the date each becomes available.
- Mark furniture going to storage or a separate pickup.
- Name the rooms needing packing or unpacking.
- Keep keys, documents, medication and arrival essentials with you.
Leave a clear final-night plan
Keep a small set of daily essentials outside the packed load. Leave cleaning supplies accessible, reserve a place for packed boxes and keep donation items visibly separate. A labeled room plan helps make unloading decisions quickly.
Update the estimate request if the inventory or scope changes. The useful measure is the work that will actually happen, not the original room count after half the furniture has been donated.
A useful answer
Should I sort donations before packing for my Medfield move?
Yes. Give each large item a destination before it goes into the moving inventory: the next home, a confirmed donation, recycling or removal. That keeps the packing scope clear and avoids paying to move furniture you have already decided to part with.
Medfield has a seasonal SWAP area at its transfer station. Check current acceptance and availability before relying on it, and get approval from a charity before treating a furniture pickup as a donation.
